The Optical House News Release November 1971

INFINITE GRAPHIC CREATIVITY and super speed are two advantages of a new computer animation system recently unveiled at The Optical House, reports Dick Rauh (above), art director and vice president of the New York post-production film company.

“This equipment is the first direct link between artist and animation stand,” Rauh says.  “Previous animation systems worked against the artist.”

Before the new computer animation was available, Rauh says, an artist often found it physically impossible to execute desired effects on a conventional animation stand.  The new computer system, in contrast, will precisely calculate movements of camera and animation stand—and do it three times as fast as conventional equipment.  Further, the new system is also equipped with Cinescan—an optical process that modifies or regenerates images as prescribed.

The manufacturer of the computer system, Cinetron Computer Systems, Inc., Atlanta, has given The Optical House exclusive rights to the optical process.  The result, “The most advanced animation techniques to date,” Rauh states.
